So the theme to this shoot was “Cold Days/Warm Thoughts” and I thought this was a brilliant theme idea until every last bit of snow melted the day before the shoot! Almost all of my locations, poses, and fun ideas revolved around snow. (throws hands up in air) Oh well, what can you do? So my kiddos and amazing husband and I set out bright and early so we could build a path out of bark and leaves to cross the muddy terrain that led to our fire pit and talking circle location. This is where the “warm thoughts” part of the theme comes into play. I dreamed of this winter shoot. All the girls sitting cozy around a fire, wrapped in blankets, with hot cocoa while having a meaningful conversation about their thoughts on being a senior in high school. Challenges, dreams, hopes, goals, fears, insecurities, inspiration, and all that goes along with this territory. A chance to have their voices heard and an opportunity to connect. The day ended up being perfect. It was a freakishly warm and windy day and we got a little smoked out by our fire, but the conversation was worth it. Here’s a peek into the day. My little Layla was really excited about this shoot. She made this sign for our “hot chocolate stand.”

Emma had a sweet surprise…hand lettered names for each of us! Shelby inherited two names since I repeatedly called her by the wrong name all day. It’s because they both have the same gorgeous curly hair!
